On February 27, 2025, Santa Maria lost a great friend and pillar of the community, Jim Glines. There have been few who have given so much to their community as Jim did. His accomplishments are numerous and notable.
Some examples of them include the following:
- Past Chairman of the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Queen Contest.
- A member of the Santa Barbara County Fair and Director’s Choice Person of the Year in 2018.
- California State Champion Auctioneer in 2001.
- Santa Maria Elks Citizen of the Year in 2008.
- Santa Maria Citizen of the Year in 2005.
- Co-founded Community Bank of Santa Maria in 2001 where he served as Chairman until his passing.
- Chief Executive of the Bulldog Boosters group at Allan Hancock College raising funds for the athletics programs there.
- Helped establish the Hancock College Rodeo Club.
And for those supporters of our Santa Maria Police Council, he will forever be remembered as a driving force in the establishment of the organization back in 2007. He served on the Board since its inception, twice as President. Under his tutelage, the Police Council has donated over $2.0 million, as of January 2025, for the benefit of the Santa Maria Police Department. Much of that funding came from moneys he helped raise through his auctioneering efforts at the Council’s annual Comedy Night Dinner Auction.
Most important of all though, Jim will always be remembered as a friend and supporter of all who knew him. His friendly kindness was legendary. The Santa Maria Police Council extends their sympathy and support to Jim’s wife, Kathy, and his four children and five grandchildren.
